First Workshop on Climate Change, Variability and Modeling over Central America and Mexico

November 10-14, 2014

Ensenada, Baja California, México

Mexico and Central America are vulnerable regions to extreme climatic events that causes socio-economical and natural disasters. Central America is a hot spot for climate change impact (Giorgi, 2006), being one of the most vulnerable regions in the world to climate change. Recent simulations performed with RegCM, contributing to the Coordinated Regional climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX) over Central America have shown that the use of regional climate models allows for a better representation of the local climate features and meso-scale phenomena, such as for example tropical cyclones compared with coarser resolution Global Models. Therefore, the main purpose of the workshop will be to provide extensive sessions focused on the implementation of techniques to carry out analysis of climate variability and climatic change in this area. The use of the regional climate model RegCM4 model will be shown as a tool to study climate-related phenomena at high resolution.

WCRP VAMOS/CORDEX Workshop on Latin-America and Caribbean CORDEX LAC: Phase II – The Caribbean

A partnership between CLIVAR/VAMOS and CORDEX

7th-9th April 2014, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

The Second VAMOS/CORDEX Workshop on Latin-America and Caribbean, CORDEX LAC: Phase II –The Caribbean- aims to foster collaboration among participants focusing on already identified Vulnerability Impact and Adaptation (VIA) needs for the region. The workshop builds on the experience of the First VAMOS/CORDEX Workshop on Latin-America and Caribbean, CORDEX LAC: Phase I – South America which was held 11-13 September, 2013 in Lima, Perú.

WCRP VAMOS/CORDEX Workshop on Latin – America and Caribbean CORDEX LAC: Phase I – South America

September 11-13, 2013
Lima, Perú

The VAMOS/CORDEX Workshop on Latin-America and Caribbean, CORDEX LAC: Phase I – South America brings together the international community of regional climate scientists to pursue an initial assessment of the various CORDEX downscaling initiatives over the South American and Central American CORDEX domains.

This event will provide a forum for addressing the following topics:

  • Regional climate downscaling products for model evaluation, assessment of regional climate change projections and associated uncertainties, including extreme events.
  • Vulnerability, impacts and adaptation analysis on key sectors (hydrology, agriculture, water resources, and health, among others).
  • Implications for sustainable development and policy-making – building capacity contributing to a global framework for climate services.
